3 Fabrics That Will Keep You Cool All Summer Long
Every season has its’ weather appropriate clothing. Fall has sweaters and layers, winter has heavy jackets and boots, spring has light cardigans and transitional sweaters, and of course summer has sundresses and sandals.
Each of these seasons require different types of clothing in order to stay warm or cool. During the hot summer months, all I ever want to do is throw on something light and airy that won’t make me super sweaty within the two minute walk to my car from my apartment or work parking lot. There are certain fabrics that I refuse to wear during the summer because they just hold in heat more, making me uncomfortable. Today I am going to be sharing my favorite fabrics that will help keep you cool all summer long. After reading this you might realize that a lot of these are already favorites in your closet!
1. Rayon
Rayon is a very breathable fabric that is best used in the hot summer months. It is very soft and similar to cotton, and tends to be inexpensive. Rayon does require gentle washing and mild detergent. I don’t recommend wearing rayon in colder months as it usually does not hold in heat very well.
2. Linen
Every time I think of linen I think of the beach. Linen is so commonly used for many nautical fashions and home decorations. While linen is a soft and airy fabric, make sure to have an iron close by as it tends to wrinkle a lot. However, if that’s all I have to have to feel cool in the 100 degree Florida temperatures, I’ll take it!
3. Cotton
Cotton, the most favorite fabric for all seasons is of course one of my top choices for the hot summer months! Since cotton is a naturally made fabric, air is able to flow through the fibers very easily, making this fabric a must-have across every retailer.
Pro tip: If the tag says that the garment is 100% cotton (not pre-shrunk), expect the item to shrink up to one size.
Those are my top three fabrics that will keep you cool all summer long! Next time you’re out shopping, be sure to look at the tag on the garment to see which fabric is listed to help you make your decision before purchasing!
