5 Easy Dog Lick Mat Ideas
If you’ve ever wondered, “what to put on a lickimat?”, I got you! Dog lick mat ideas are kind of my jam and I am constantly coming up with super easy dog lick mat recipes and fun lick mat recipes for dogs that look like a fun design, all using just a few ingredients!
Dog lick mats are one of my favorite dog enrichment activities because of the numerous benefits of lick mats for dogs. One being anxiety reduction! We’ll be making five frozen dog treat recipes using some of my all time favorite dog lick mats (that aren’t only the Lickimat brand).
Plus, don’t forget to check the bottom of this post for many more dog lick mat ideas that your pup will love!

Dog Lick Mat Idea 1:
The first dog lick mat recipe is a super easy single ingredient dog treat. For this frozen dog treat recipe, all you need is the following:
- Pure canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
- TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Bowl (Lickimat wobble bowl is also a great alternative!)
- Knife or spoon
Step 1: Grab your TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack bowl (or Lickimat wobble bowl) and a few spoonfuls of pure canned pumpkin and spread the pumpkin all over your bowl.
Pro Tip: If you feed your dog a raw diet, this lickimat for dogs is also a great option to use in place of your dog’s regular bowl throughout the week!
Step 2: Once spread, freeze for 1-2 hours or overnight. Pumpkin tends to freeze quickly so I would expect it to be ready in the 1-2 hour time frame or less!

Dog Lick Mat Idea 2:
Let’s stick with the single ingredient dog treats for one more frozen lickimat idea and bring in one of my all-time favorite ingredients: dog bone broth!
I actually reviewed a really cool organic dog bone broth brand called Jaffee’s and made a fun frozen summer dog treat recipe using only 3 ingredients! That post also explains the many benefits of bone broth for dogs and the really cool flavors that Jaffee’s has compared to other dog bone broth brands!
P.S. You can save 10% on your order at Jaffeesbonebroth.com with code Sparkles10
For this bone broth dog treat, you’ll need the following:
- Jaffee’s organic dog bone broth (any flavor, featured here is Wild Grazed Elk)
- Lickimat TUFF Playdate (or TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate – featured in the last recipe of this post!)
- I only shared licking mats for dogs with hard backs because we’re using a liquid here.
Step 1: Measure out what one serving of dog bone broth is for your size dog. The back of the Jaffee’s organic dog bone broth bag will have the serving size based on your dog’s weight!
Step 2: Once measured, carefully pour your dog bone broth onto your Lickimat TUFF. Slow and steady wins the race here so it doesn’t splatter everywhere, ha!
Step 3: Freeze for 3-4 hours or overnight (liquids take longer to freeze!)

Dog Lick Mat Idea 3:
Let’s move on to some 2 ingredient dog treats starting with a classic combo even I’d eat, ha! For this frozen dog treat recipe, all you need is the following:
- 1 Banana (only 1/2 for one dog)
- Dog Safe Peanut Butter (we LOVE Poochie Butter!)
- Xylitol or sugar is in most regular peanut butters, which is toxic to dogs. You also want to look at what oils and added sugars are in regular peanut butter since those can also be bad for dogs.
- Lickimat Buddy (here’s a great deal on a Lickimat two-pack that has one Lickimat Buddy and one Lickimat Soother!)
Step 1: Grab half of a banana, place it on top of your Lickimat Buddy and mash with a fork, spreading it as you mash.
Step 2: Grab your dog safe peanut butter and spread 1-2 spoonfuls throughout.
Step 3: Freeze for 1-2 hours or overnight!

Dog Lick Mat Idea 4:
The next two ingredient dog treat recipe is another one of my dogs’ and I’s favorite flavor combinations! For this DIY frozen dog treat, all you need is the following:
- 2-3 strawberries
- 1 banana (only 1/2 for one dog)
- BigMouth Pets Fries Dog Lick Mat
- Blender (I love my Ninja Bullet!)
- Baking Sheet (or pizza pan)
Step 1: In a blender, add 2-3 strawberries with a splash of water and blend.
Step 2: Place your BigMouth Pets Fries dog lick mat on your baking sheet. This will help transport it to the fridge since it doesn’t have a hard back like the Lickimat TUFF or TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate.
Step 3: Grab your 1/2 banana and in the “fries” part of your licking mat for dogs, grab a fork and mash the banana, spreading it across the entire yellow area.
Step 4: Grab your blended strawberries and slowly pour onto the red part of your dog lick mat.
Pro Tip: Make sure to go slow here and don’t pour too much in one area. This lick mat is thin and not as deep as the Lickimat TUFF or TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate.
Step 5: Freeze for 3-4 hours or overnight.

Dog Lick Mat Idea 5:
The last healthy lickimat recipe is one of my go-to dog lick mat recipes for the summer, specifically the Fourth of July! This patriotic frozen summer dog treat is a super easy 3 ingredient dog treat that your pup will love for the holiday, summer or all year long!
This homemade frozen dog treat also features one of my new favorite licking mat for dogs from one of my favorite enrichment brands, TRIXIE! To make this frozen treat for dogs, you need the following:
- 2-3 strawberries
- Handful of blueberries
- Plain Greek yogurt (don’t get any flavored, even vanilla because of the added sugar)
- TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate
- Blender (I love my Ninja Bullet!)
- Piping bag or DIY version (optional)
Step 1: In a blender, add your strawberries with a splash of water and blend.
Step 2: Slowly pour your blended strawberries onto your TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate.
Step 3: Rinse out your blender and repeat for your blueberries. Slowly pour your blended blueberries into the bottom section of your TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate.
Step 4: Grab your plain Greek yogurt and fill the middle of your TRIXIE Lick N’ Snack Licking Plate to complete your patriotic summer frozen dog treat recipe!
Pro Tip: I love using a piping bag (or diy version from a ziploc bag) to put my yogurt into the middle section. It just goes so much faster!
Step 5: Freeze for 3-4 hours or overnight.
