Jolly Pets Tree Tugger Outdoor Dog Toy Review

For over a month now, my dogs have been obsessed with their Jolly Pets dog toys! If you’ve never heard of Jolly Pets before, this dog toy brand makes the best outdoor dog toys! They have some amazing dog toys for strong chewers like my dog Diesel and great active toys for dogs and toys for hyper dogs like my girl Annie!

Currently, their favorite Jolly Pets dog toys are: Jolly Pets Romp-N-RollJolly Pets Fat Tail (we have the elephant!), Jolly Pets Soccer BallJolly Pets Bounce-N-PlayJolly Pets Football and the Jolly Pets Teaser Ball

We recently got to try another awesome outdoor dog toy called the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger. This is a great tug toy for dogs that actually hangs from your tree! I don’t know about you, but the way my boy Diesel plays tug of war, I think a tree is a much more evenly matched partner than me, strength wise, ha!

In this post, I’ll be sharing how to assemble the Jolly Pets tree Tugger, how to add more length for different breeds/tree branch sizes and a fun way to make this self-play dog toy a little extra tasty!

How To Assemble The Jolly Pets Tree Tugger

Ready to try out the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger? Below are step-by-step instructions on how to assemble this awesome tug toy for dogs:

I’ve also made a quick assembly video of the Tree Tugger dog toy.

Step 1: Grab the green bungee cord (middle item first image) and the Jolly Jumper dog toy (left item first image)

Step 2: On your green bungee cord, there are two sides: one with elastic (the toy end) and one without (the tree end). Both have loops that you will use. Grab the toy end and put the green loop through both black loops of the Jolly Jumper dog toy slightly past the green loop (where the elastic begins).

Step 3: Next, grab the tree end loop (no elastic) and put that through the toy end loop (with elastic).

Step 4: Pull to secure. It will create a knot when secured (see double image below)

Step 5: Toss the tree end of the green bungee cord over your tree branch.

Pro Tip: Make sure you have a sturdy tree branch. You don’t want anything that’s too thin, otherwise you’ll run the risk of the branch breaking during play time, which wouldn’t be safe for your dog.

Step 6: Put the Tree Tugger dog toy all the way through the green circle.

Step 7: Pull to secure. Once secured, you will see a green knot at the top of your tree branch, similar to the one around the green cord and Jolly Jumper dog toy (see bottom right photo below). That’s all there is to it!

Important Note: The length of the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger outdoor dog toy must meet your dog at nose level. If you need a little more length or have a shorter tree branch, the next section will show you how to add extra length with the 8′ tree extension rope that’s included!

Pro Tip: You can also switch out the toy that’s attached! Grab your Jolly Pets Tug-N-TossJolly Pets Romp-N-RollJolly Tug or any other attachable Jolly Pets active dog toys! I definitely plan on doing this to switch things up from time to time for my pups!

How To Add The Jolly Pets Tree Tugger Extension Rope

Depending on the dog breed & size as well as the length of your tree branch, you may need to add some extra length to ensure that the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger is meeting your dog at nose level. The package includes tree setup instructions that also goes into detail on how to create long, longer and the longest amount of extension with the help of the 8′ extension rope.

Here is a quick breakdown of how to add the “long” amount of length to the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger:

Step 1 Grab your black extension rope and ASSEMBLED Jolly Pets Tree Tugger

Note: If you have it up in the tree to check the length, that’s fine. Simply undo the green knot at the top and pull it down. Everything else is still ready to go!

Step 2: Toss the black extension rope over the tree branch, creating a third loop (the two small ones on the extension rope, and the now big loop from tossing it over the branch).

Step 3: Grab the tree end of the green extension rope and put it through all three loops.

Note: Photo on the left (below) shows what it looks like out of the tree and the right shows the end result. The extension rope moves close together once tossed over the branch, so I wanted to make sure there was still a visual of what you’re trying to do!

Step 4: Grab the toy and put it through the loop. Pull to secure. You now will have created the same green knot that you did over the branch before the extension rope was added!

That’s all there is to it!

How To Add A Tasty Treat To The Jolly Pets Tree Tugger

Now, if you want to add a little tasty fun to this outdoor, active toy for dogs, or if you have dogs like mine who looked at the Tree Tugger and were like, “what am I supposed to do with that?” here’s a fun tip!

Grab some peanut butter and put it all over the green ball toy. Once I did this, Annie was like oh my gosh, you mean I can LICK this? After that, she started to get the hang of it. I have a feeling that we’ll be bringing the Tree Tugger over to grandma and grandpa’s house really soon so my parent’s dogs can show them how it’s done, ha!

How cool is the Jolly Pets Tree Tugger? I first saw this tug toy for dogs at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando a few months back and immediately thought it was the coolest outdoor dog toy, especially for dogs who love self-play dog toys!
