Leo’s Loo Too Review: Automatic Smart Cat Litter Box
Growing up, my least favorite chore in the house that my mom always made me do was cleaning the cat’s litter box. I couldn’t tell you why I hated it, but I just absolutely despised it! It’s ironic today because I don’t mind doing horse stalls, which is basically a giant litter box, ha! I would ask her if we could get an automatic litter box but she would always say no because it was never in the budget.
Now that I’m an adult, and we have a new cat in our home, I knew I had to get my very own automatic smart cat litter box! When I attended the Global Pet Expo, I met the most amazing team from a brand called Casa Leo. Casa Leo has designed two different automatic smart cat litter boxes, their newest being Leo’s Loo Too. I’ll be fully transparent and say that it’s not cheap, however, I definitely think this is worth saving up for.
In this post I’m doing a full Leo’s Loo Too review and sharing tons of helpful information about all of it’s incredible health features, how it helps to eliminate litter box odor, how the smart cat litter box works and so much more!
Quick Notes About Leo’s Loo Too
Before I get into all of the really cool features of this automatic smart cat litter box, I wanted to share a few important notes about Casa Leo’s: Leo’s Loo Too like price, warranty, colors and more!
Price:
The price for the Leo’s Loo Too by itself is $649.99. They do offer bundle options, that I do recommend:
- Leo’s Loo Too Starter Bundle (What I have): Includes smart cat litter box + accessories including litter mat (it’s amazing by the way!), 25 drawstring waste litter drawer liners, Casa Leo plushie cat toys (3 pack)
P.S. Get $30 off your starter bundle, with code Sparkles30 at checkout!
- Leo’s Loo Too 3 Year Extended Warranty Bundle: Adds two extra years on top of the 12-month factory warranty. For me, anything with technology is worth getting a longer warranty on, especially if it’s only $100 more and you’re already spending $600+ anyways. Might as well right, ha!
- If you buy more than one, you do get a discount! The discounts are:
- Buy 2, use code 100OFF for an additional $100 off at checkout
- Buy 3, use code 200OFF for an additional $200 off at checkout
- Buy 4, use code 300OFF for an additional $300 off at checkout
Trial Period & Warranty:
Leo’s Loo Too comes with a 12-month factory warranty and you can do a 90-day trial. The important thing to note here is they do specify to use clay clumping litter with this box. If you use anything other than that it voids the warranty and 90-day trial.
Color Options:
Probably one of my favorite parts, the Leo’s Loo Too is available in four colors:
- Leo Gray
- Avocado Green
- Baby Blue
- Pretty Pink (featured here, and it matches my office!)
Leo’s Loo Too Features:
The first thing I want to do is share all of the cool features of the Leo’s Loo Too automatic smart cat litter box. These features are truly what sold me because I’ve seen a few other self cleaning cat litter boxes that don’t have all of these features, including some of the competing ones on the market.
UV Rays To Eliminate Up To 99.9% of Bacteria
This is something I have never seen from other self-cleaning smart cat litter boxes. After Colonel Mustard is done in the litter box, the Leo’s Loo Too has a sanitizing UV Light to reduce odor and bacteria for a cleaner and fresher home! The power button has a few different color modes which I’ll be pointing out later, but if you see it’s blue, that means the UV sterilization cycle is running!
Weight Sensors
The Leo’s Loo Too has four weight sensors at the bottom of the smart litter box to know when your cat enters and exits. The cleaning cycle only begins once it knows your cat is completely out of the box. I can fully attest to this because when Colonel first started using this, he was fascinated (I mean truly, ha!) by the fact that as soon as he was out, it would start moving. He would repeatedly run back, put his paws up on the little step and go to watch it, only to see that it would stop moving.
Radar Wall & Anti Pinch Sensor
Similar to the weight sensors, the radar wall helps detect when your cat is nearby, stopping any rotation so your cat can enter. Also, if anything abnormal were to enter the waste chute, the Leo’s Loo Too is designed to immediately stop and reverse the rotation!
Whisper Quiet Motor
This smart cat litter box has a super quiet motor, so when it’s sifting and cleaning, you don’t have to worry about this large sound interrupting your day.
App Connectivity
This was one of my favorite features in tandem with the weight sensors. This self-cleaning smart litter box is WIFI enabled, has it’s own app and can connect to your Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant. The reason I loved this feature so much is because I can always keep track of Colonel, no matter where I am. I’ll be sharing more about what the app can do later in this post!
How To Setup The Leo’s Loo Too
Now that we’ve gone over some of the Leo’s Loo Too features, I thought it would be helpful to share how to setup your Leo’s Loo Too self-cleaning smart cat litter box.
Step 1: Place your Leo’s Loo Too on a hard surface. The main reason for this is because the weight sensors will not work on carpet. Now, if you live in an apartment or home like me that has carpet, check out the pro tip below!
Pro Tip: A quick fix to ensure your Leo’s Loo Too works on carpet is to get a piece of plywood from Lowe’s or Home Depot to place your smart litter box on. The Leo’s Loo Too measures approximately 2 ft. by 2 ft. so you don’t need a piece too big. I went to Lowe’s and found a premade piece that was already sanded and 3/4 inch thick at 4 ft. by 4 ft. that I had cut to about 2 ft. by 2 &1/2 ft. The total cost was around $27 ($24ish + tax). This route was still cheaper than getting a bigger sheet and having it cut down. Those were running $40+, and I had no use for the other part of the wood.
Bonus Tip: Make sure the Lowe’s or Home Depot you’re going to can cut the wood for you since not every location does. Unless you have a saw at home, then you’re good!
Step 2: Add in your preferred clay clumping litter. They share that any brand will work, but their favorite is Dr. Elsey’s Ultra, which I have used in the past and also like! Dr. Elsey’s also has a Cat Attract litter that has a natural herb attractant that I’ve seen help kittens with litter training and also cats who are using a new type of litter box, like a smart automatic cat litter box like Leo’s Loo Too.
Pro Tip: Inside the Leo’s Loo Too cat litter box is a sticker that says “Max”. This is the line for how much litter should be in the box. If you have too much inside, it can end up sifting out excess litter and essentially wasting it. Whenever I feel like I need more, I just add a little at a time!
Between this litter, the daily cleaning and the charcoal carbon filter that is at the top of the litter box (you get two replacement ones with purchase), my office doesn’t smell like cat litter. With every other litter box I’ve used, it has never eliminated litter box odor like this one has. If you’re house smells like cat litter, I can’t recommend trying this out more!
Step 3: Set up your waste drawer. The Leo’s Loo Too has a drawer that’s 58% bigger than the Leo’s Loo and it has a top cover. To set it up, first remove the drawer and lift the top cover. Grab your waste drawer liner bag and spread it evenly inside of the drawer (it doesn’t have to be perfect!). Then, close the lid and slide the drawer back in.
Pro Tip: On your quick setup guide, it will say to turn it on before preparing your waste drawer. Don’t do that! The User Manual is actually correct and has the steps in the order we’re doing here. The main reason why is because unless your drawer is set up, once you turn it on, it will begin rotating, and if your drawer isn’t ready, you will have a bunch of sifted litter in your drawer that you’ll have to put back in your box before the drawer is even set up.
Step 4: Power on by holding the circle power button on the front for two seconds. Your Leo’s Loo Too will rotate a full circle and the light will flash.
Note: One thing I really liked is that it came with a 6′ anti-chew cord. As you can see in some of my photos, there’s a bookshelf next to my litter box. My outlet is on the right side of this bookshelf and the power cord reached all the way around to plug in without any problems! Plus, I felt the material of this cord and can attest to how durable it is. Since we know our animals love to “inspect” our cords sometimes, it’s nice to know that this option is safer than many from other electronic devices around our homes.
To change your Leo’s Loo Too, pull out your drawer, replace the bag, push it back in and press the power button on your Leo’s Loo Too twice to reset it. The app will actually notify you when the drawer is full and will pause sifting until it is changed. You will also know it’s full when the light changes to red and blinks slowly.
If you’re wondering, how often should my Leo’s Loo Too cat litter box be cleaned? For me with one cat, I’m changing it every one to one and 1/2 weeks I believe. Casa Leo recommends emptying the waste drawer frequently, no less than once per week. While I know a lot of people love this self cleaning litter box for multiple cats, I would assume they’re changing it once a week as well.
P.S. Make sure to check out my YouTube video below sharing a complete interactive walk-through of the Leo’s Loo Too!
Last but not least, let’s share how Leo’s Loo Too smart cat litter box connects with it’s own app and Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant, and what you can do within the app.
Step 5: Open your User Manual or Quick Setup Guide to find the section called “Pair with App”. You will see a QR code that you can scan which will take you to your app store to download the app and create an account.
Step 6: Once you’ve downloaded the app and created an account, press the power button on your Leo’s Loo Too for 5 seconds. When you hear 3 beeps, your Leo’s Loo Too is in pairing mode for your app!
Step 7: In your app, click “Add Device” and it will show all available devices. Choose your Leo’s Loo Too and complete setup.
Within the app you can monitor and do a lot of things such as:
- View daily usage & cat’s weight & sterilization on the homepage
- Manually initiate cleaning mode at the push of a button
- Create scheduled settings like a daily cleaning schedule, sleep mode and sterilization schedule.
- Monitor filter & litter replacement schedule to know when to do a full cleaning
- Adjust when your Leo’s Loo Too begins cleaning after your cat leaves (ours is set up to 6 seconds after)
- Adjust how many cleaning rotations per cycle.
We currently don’t have a Google Alexa, but if we get one I’d love to set it up. If you do have one, you can set up Leo’s Loo Too Commands like:
- “Turn on (Your Device Name)”
- “Turn off (Your Device Name)”
- “Set (Your Device Name) to Automatic”
- “Set (Your Device Name) to Manual”
Having access to the amount of information this app provides is HUGE! Before Colonel Mustard, I had a cat named Felix, who has been on this blog before. Felix had diabetes and eventually passed away from kidney failure, which is common in cats. One common sign with kidney issues in particular is more water intake with more urination and also towards the end he started dropping weight. At the time, I’ll be honest, I was cleaning the litter every other day instead of daily and wasn’t really keeping track of everything as I could have been (I know this now). With this amount of information available, and the knowledge I have now, I’m able to be an even better cat owner and spot any abnormal behaviors, keep track of Colonel’s weight, and call my vet, before they turn into something major.
Leo’s Loo Too Accessories:
If you end up getting the bundle that comes with the accessories or are interested in purchasing any of the accessories for your Leo’s Loo Too smart cat litter box, I wanted to share which item is definitely worth it.
When you get your Leo’s Loo Too, you automatically get two carbon filters and 10 drawstring waste drawer liners. In the Starter bundle you get 25 drawstring waste drawer liners, Casa Leo plushie cat toys and their Leo’s Loo litter mat.
Ya’ll, that litter mat is the best litter mat I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried numerous over the years. Not only does this litter mat fit custom to the Leo’s Loo Too, the design also features deeper holes to really catch any litter as your cat leaves the smart cat litter box. Plus, it’s super soft and cushiony, making the departure for your cat nice and soft. I have used SO many different litter mats, ones even bigger than this one, and this one has done the best job at catching anything that Colonel might kick out as he leaves (which isn’t too much, also a bonus with this self-cleaning cat litter box!).
If you buy one accessory at all, get the Leo’s Loo litter mat!
P.S. Don’t forget you can get $30 off your starter bundle with code Sparkles30 at checkout!
After having the Leo’s Loo Too smart cat litter box for about a month now, I can truly say I absolutely love it! I love that I can walk into my office and it doesn’t smell like cat litter because trust me, I’ve had my fair share of my house smelling like cat litter.
