3 Halloween Dog Lick Mat Ideas

Happy Howl-O-ween dog parents!!! Every year I love doing matching dog and owner Halloween costumes, decorating for the holiday and of course, making fun Halloween dog treat recipes!

I always joke that when it comes to spending time in the kitchen, I will go ALL OUT for my dogs and make fun treats, but for myself, I’d rather grab a can of Spaghetti-o’s and call it a day, ha! One of my favorite dog treat recipes to make are dog lick mat recipes! Lickimats are one of Diesel and Annie’s favorite dog enrichment activities and what’s fun about dog lick mat recipes is that they can be as simple or as intricate as you want!

While I love doing one ingredient dog lick mat treat recipes, I also love to get creative and make fun recipes for the holidays. In this post, I’ve created 3 easy Halloween dog lick mat ideas that you can create in minutes! Plus, you only need 6 ingredients for ALL three recipes (two of the ingredients are for one recipe only!).

Let’s make some spoooooooky Halloween dog treats!

P.S. Don’t forget to check out my Healthy Dog Treat Recipes blog section for many more frozen lickimat ideas including some spooktacular Halloween recipes like my Frankenstein dog lick mat idea and Halloween Night Sky lickimat recipe.

Now let’s get into each Halloween dog lick mat treat recipe and learn what to put on a Lickimat!

3 Halloween Dog Lick Mat Ideas Sparkles and Sunshine Blog

1. Dog Lick Mat Idea: Halloween Witch Face

The first dog lick mat idea is a Halloween witch face! Now, before you look at that and say, holy crap that looks hard or like it’ll take forever, fear not! It’s actually incredibly easy to do! For this Halloween dog lick mat recipe you will need the following from the ingredients and tools list:

P.S. Want to know more things you can put on a dog lick mat? I’ve created 20+ easy-to-make dog lick mat recipes in my new What To Put On A Lick Mat: The Ultimate Dog Enrichment Cookbook (only $12.99)! This cookbook is a digital download so you can prop it up on your phone or iPad as you’re making tons of healthy dog lick mat ideas for your pup!

Step 1: Grab your your cooked frozen peas (I get the steamable bag) and your cocktail muddler. In a small bowl, mash your peas with your cocktail muddler until they’re mushy. If you don’t have a cocktail muddler, you can use anything your prefer to mash! That’s just what I use for everything and it works great!

Step 2: Find the middle of your XL Lickimat Buddy (I count 4-5 plus signs up) and make a line straight down to the bottom of the mat. This is the start of the face.

Step 3: Come out a little ways on both sides to finish creating the shape of the face. You can make whatever face shape you want by the way! In my first one I did an oval, and in my second I did more of a round face because the oval didn’t quite work out that time, ha!

Step 4: Grab your piping bag and pure canned pumpkin. Fill your piping bag with 3-4 spoonfuls of pumpkin. This will be used to create the hair and eyebrows.

Step 5: On both sides of the face, use the piping bag to create your witch’s hair. I did curly waves because I wanted her to have a good hair day, ha!

Step 6: With the tip pointed towards your XL Lickimat Buddy, create two curved lines at the top of the face to create the eyebrows.

Step 7: Clean out your piping bag and fill it with 1 spoonful of plain Greek yogurt.

Step 8: Make two small dots below the eyebrows for the eyes. Then, with the tip pointed down, draw your nose and mouth of your choice. I feel like the nose on mine looks like Squidward, ha, and she’s got a big smile because she’s having a good hair day, ha!

Step 9: Grab a blueberry and cut it in half. Place one half on each eye to complete the eyes.

Step 10: In your blender, grab a handful of blueberries and add a few splashes of water. Blend until it creates a blueberry juice.

Step 11: With a spoon, create the brim of your hat by making a straight line of the blended blueberries above the head.

Step 12: Create the pointed part of the hat by filling in the sections above with your blended blueberries until you’ve created a point.

Step 13: Freeze for 3-4 hours and then you’re all done!

2. Dog Lick Mat Idea: Carved Pumpkin

The next Halloween dog lick mat treat recipe is a super easy and fun single ingredient dog lick mat idea.

For this dog lick mat idea you will need the following from the ingredients and tools list:

Step 1: Fill your piping bag with a few spoonfuls of pure canned pumpkin

Step 2: On your Lickimat Soother, with your piping bag, draw a large circle to start your pumpkin shape.

Step 3: Start creating your own pumpkin face!

Note: For mine, I kept it super basic with triangle eyes, a circle nose and a smile. I didn’t want to give steps for this part because I wanted to encourage you to do whatever face you want! If you want to keep it simple, go for it, or, if you want to make something unique, do that too!

Step 4: Once you’ve created your face, with your piping bag, add a little to the empty spaces around the face.

Step 5: With a knife, smooth out the added pumpkin around the face to fill in your pumpkin.

Optional: Make a square at the top to make a stem for your pumpkin. You can also use a treat to do this too!

Step 6: Freeze for 2-3 hours and watch your dog enjoy!

3. Dog Lick Mat Idea: Witches Brew

The last Halloween dog lick mat idea is the witches brew. This one I was super excited to create because it is my first Lickimat idea using the Lickimat Wobble. I’ve been wanting to create a recipe with it for a while, and this is the first idea I got SUPER excited about!

For this dog lick mat idea you will need the following from the ingredients and tools list:

Step 1: In your blender, blend a can of green beans.

Step 2: Grab your Lickimat Wobble and fill with the blended green beans.

Step 3: Add your Bully Stick to the bowl (this is the stirring stick for the witches brew).

Note: You don’t have to use a Bully Stick! If you already have another dog treat at home that’s similar, feel free to use that! If you’re interested in using a Bully Stick, the one featured here is the new naturally smoked line from Barkworthies. We were gifted the entire collection a few months ago and I can attest after having it for some time that my dogs LOVE these!

Optional: Grab your Halloween silicone molds and plain Greek yogurt and fill each piece that you would like included. The idea behind this was to make the “ingredients” for the witches brew and I found these fun skeleton and bone molds from Amazon and Joann Fabrics!

Step 4: Place everything in the freezer and freeze overnight.

Step 5: Grab your frozen Lickimat Wobble, Greek yogurt filled silicone molds, a few blueberries and a few peas.

Step 6: Sprinkle a few peas on top of the frozen green bean brew (these are the bubbles), a few blueberries (brew ingredients), your frozen yogurt molds (brew ingredients).

Give your spooky snack to your dog and watch them enjoy!
