Canophera Coffee Wood Natural Dog Chew Review
Growing up in the 90’s and 2000’s, the popular dog chews were rawhide bones or soup bones. Fast forward some years later, we really got into antlers, horns and other animal parts as chews. All of the types of chews above had their own problems and safety concerns for dogs like:
- Rawhide bones: Huge choking hazard after chewing for a short period of time
- Antlers: Risk of breaking teeth
- Horns: Splintering, resulting in choking hazard
You’re probably reading this and are thinking what I thought, “well, what is safe then?” I’m so glad you asked! For months now, I’ve been trying an all natural dog chew and am beyond happy with the results. Out of all the chews for large dogs that I’ve tried, this natural dog chew is by far the safest dog chew that I’ve ever found (and it’s available for dogs of all sizes)!
My new favorite safe dog chews are the Canophera coffee wood natural dog chews! In this post I’m sharing a full review with everything you need to know about coffee wood dog chews, why they’re one of the safest dog chews, why these no rawhide dog chews can aid in many aspects of your dog’s everyday life, and my awesome experience with Canophera!
What Is Coffee Wood?
First, let’s actually dive into what exactly is coffee wood and where coffee wood dog chews come from. Coffee wood dog chews are made from pruned branches of the coffee tree to encourage tree growth and are free of caffeine, sugar and any artificial ingredients.
Plus, since coffee wood dog chews are made from existing parts of the environment that might previously have been considered waste, they’re eco-friendly and a great alternative to rawhide bones and other plastic/synthetic made bones if you want to stay away from them (not saying all plastic ones are bad though!).
Is Coffee Wood Safe For Dogs?
This is probably my favorite part about coffee wood dog chews! Yes, coffee tree wood dog chews are safe for dogs and here’s why:
- They don’t splinter
- They get soft as your dog chews them
- Any small pieces that break off are ok to be digested (obviously don’t let your dog eat a whole stick, ha!).
- They’re all natural dog chews and are free of any animal products, caffeine or sugar
Like I shared in the beginning, I’ve tried SO many different kinds of dog chews that are at every single pet store and what truly fascinated me the most, was how coffee wood dog chews really get soft as your dog chews on them. Plus, once they were done chewing and the coffee tree dog chew had a chance to dry, that area stayed soft and had not one splinter.
Note: Just like you would with any new item for your dog, please supervise your dog when they first try out these coffee wood dog chews. Even though they technically are digestible dog chews, doesn’t mean they should swallow the entire thing!
Benefits Of Coffee Wood Dog Chews:
In addition to coffee wood dog chews being safe for dogs, they also have many awesome benefits including:
- Dog dental health: These all natural coffee wood dog chews are great for helping remove plaque and tartar buildup on your dog’s teeth and can help soothe your dog’s gums!
- Dog enrichment activity: Chewing is a great way to provide mental stimulation for your dog in a way that’s natural to them! Chewing helps channel any stress and tension they may have, which is better with natural dog chews than with your furniture or clothes, ha!
- Long-Lasting: Coffee wood dog chews have had a pretty great shelf life in my home. I have two very different chewers: Diesel is a super chewer and Annie is a more moderate chewer. Even with both of them sharing their coffee wood chew sticks for dogs, they have lasted for quite a while, making these some of the best natural long lasting dog chews I’ve ever found!
Note: Every dog’s chew style is different. Your dog may go through the chew in just a few weeks, while another could last months. I share this as not to promise your dog’s chew will last for forever and ever since I simply don’t know them!
Now, let’s learn all about Canophera’s coffee wood dog chews so you know exactly what size to get and what to expect with their safe natural dog chews!
Canophera Coffee Wood Dog Chews
My experience with Canophera so far has honestly been pretty phenomenal! Canophera’s coffee wood dog chews can be found directly on their website at Canophera.com (where I purchased), on Amazon (the XL sizing is not available on Amazon, and I’ll go into sizing below which is extremely important), and in local pet stores which you can find using their store locator feature.
When I initially placed my order, it immediately shipped out the next day and it arrived two days later. Of course I’m not guaranteeing that will happen to everyone, but with my experience, I got the sizing I wanted ery quickly without buying with Amazon Prime. Pretty awesome! Canophera also has a subscribe and save option on their website where you get 10% off automatically on your order!
Picking the right size for your coffee wood dog chew is extremely important, just like with any dog chew. Below is the size chart that Canophera has on their website with breed examples and I’ve noted again what size we have:
- Extra Small (up to 11 lbs.): Pekingese, Pomeranian, Yorkshire Terrier, etc.
- Small (up to 22 lbs.): Dachshund, Jack Russell Terrier, French Bulldog, etc.
- Medium (up to 44 lbs.): Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Beagle, etc.
- Large (up to 84 lbs.): Dalmatian, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Weimaraner, Rhodesian Ridgeback, etc.
- Extra Large (85 lbs.+): They don’t have breed recommendations for this size on their website, but Diesel is 107 lbs. so I would say this size would be for Mastiff/Mastiff Mixes like him, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Danes, and any other larger breeds.
- **This is the size I have for both Annie and Diesel. **
Note: They do mention that if your dog is a heavier chewer or if you’re not 100% sure on the size to go up a size!
Pro Tip: If you have dogs of different sizes in your home (that are close in size), I would get the same larger size. For example, Diesel is 107 pounds and Annie is 67. Annie could technically use the Large, but to me, the large size is too small for Diesel, but the XL isn’t too small for Annie. This keeps both dogs safe and happy! Plus, they do sell two-packs on their website so it’s easy to get one for each of your dogs.
The last thing I do want to share about coffee wood dog chews is that they don’t stain but they do leave some residue when your dog is chewing. It does wash right out though! So, make sure your dog is chewing their coffee wood dog chews on something that can be washed like their dog bed (the cover), or if you need to, put a towel down under wherever they are.
Canophera also has other all natural dog chews that I want to try next including their Briar Roots dog chews (supposed to be extremely durable and designed for really heavy chewers) and the coffee + coco dog chews (coffee wood + coconut rope). If you’re looking for safe all natural long lasting dog chews, I highly recommend Canophera’s coffee wood dog chews!
