Lickimat Splash Review: Dog Bathing Tool

My dog Diesel hates getting a bath. He hates it so much that he goes and “hides” in plain sight. It’s quite hilarious because he’s 118 pounds, solid muscle and doesn’t really blend in anywhere, despite what he thinks with his brindle, “camouflage” coat. Ha! I’m always looking for cool dog products that help make my dog’s life more fun, easier and stress-free, which is how I discovered the Lickimat Splash!

The Lickimat Splash was created to stick to any smooth surface (tiles, glass), keep your dog entertained during bath time or other grooming activities and to help reduce anxiety and boredom. Plus, it aids in oral health for your dog! In this post, I’ll share more about the Lickimat Splash, how it works, and why it is a great dog bathing tool for you and your pup!

How It Went…

Before I explain how to use the Lickimat Splash, you probably saw in the photo above, the dog featured is not Diesel. We let Diesel try the Lickimat Splash first during his bath time and to be honest, he took a few licks and looked at us like, I know you’re still giving me a bath, the treats aren’t going to change anything, I don’t like this. Ha! Granted, we still want to try a few other recipes and see what he thinks since the plain peanut butter (with a few dog treats added) didn’t really cut it!

Annie, however, LOVED IT! She jumped right in the tub for it and started chowing down while we rinsed her off. Annie isn’t the biggest fan of baths either but she’s a lot better than Diesel, so this dog bathing tool turned her bath time into a positive experience which is exactly what we wanted!

How To Use The Lickimat Splash

Setting up your Lickimat Splash is super easy to do. We placed ours in our tile bathtub at the back of the tub. I did this so that Annie would have to actually get in the tub to get to the treat instead of having it towards the front where she could reach around to lick it without getting in!

Lickimat recommends wetting with water the area where the suction cap will stick for a stronger hold. We did it with and without water and both worked well! Once you know where you would like to place it, use the little nub in the center of the Lickimat Splash and press and hold. I found that this works best in getting it to stay.

In addition to the Lickimat Splash being a dog bathing tool, it also doubles as a dog grooming tool. I’ve seen a handful of photos where people would stick this to their tile floor and let their dogs enjoy it while they trim their dogs nails. My dogs are quite sensitive to nail trims but I’ll definitely be trying that out next to see if it helps!

What To Put On A Lickimat Splash

Now, let’s get to the tasty stuff, the treats! We kept it super simple during our test with peanut butter smeared all over. We then added a few cut up treats from their Superchewer Barkbox on top of the peanut butter for fun. If you’re looking for a few extra ideas, here are a few ideas:

  • Plain greek yogurt with strawberries and/or blueberries stuck to it
  • Mashed banana -with/without peanut butter
  • Canned pumpkin or sweet potato
  • Dog’s favorite wet food

PRO TIP: smear the treat everywhere except the nub in the middle or else you’ll have the treat all over your hands. Ha! Your pup won’t mind cleaning you off though!

NOTE: Always make sure the peanut butter you are using is Xylitol free (check ingredients list). Xylitol is toxic to dogs!

How To Clean A Lickimat Splash

The best part about the Lickimat Splash is that it is dishwasher safe! Once your dog’s bath time or grooming session is done, simply throw it in the dishwasher for a quick clean, or handwash and leave out to air dry!

Lickimats are made of non-toxic, microwave proof, freezer-friendly natural rubber material, making it safe for your dog to use as much as possible! What cracked me up is that she’s as tall as the tub, yet she still wanted to do a little bit of her “meerkat position” and reach up to get to the top of the Lickimat. Ha!
