Spring Get Active Challenge: Take Me Out To The Ball Game
Happy Tuesday!
Growing up, I attended all of my friend’s baseball games. He was usually the pitcher but he also played some outfield positions too. I remember one year, I met up with his parents to watch him play on the Fourth of July and it was one of the most fun days because they did fireworks after the game.
I have so many fun memories with baseball, that I couldn’t resist adding it in to my spring get active challenge! Grab your peanuts and cracker jacks, it’s time to go to the baseball field!

Baseball is America’s past time and my favorite sport! It’s so fun and great for people of all ages. Plus, you don’t have to be a pro to have fun! Prior to shooting this blog post, I hadn’t been on a baseball field in quite some time, same with my photographer. My photographer Nikki used to play fast-pitch softball and was having a ton of fun on this shoot. She even coached me on my last shot (see bottom of this post)!
I also had NEVER tried Cracker Jacks. I know, I know I’m nuts. I’ve always been a picky eater so I never had any desire to try them. Cracker Jacks are my mom’s favorite snack in the whole world so I had to try it for her. Surprisingly I really liked them and of course I had to call her right after and tell her!
You don’t need too much to play this sport. All you need is a baseball bat, a baseball, a baseball glove, and some bases (if you want to be fancy haha).
I found all of my gear from Dick’s Sporting Goods. What I love about Dick’s is that whether you’re shopping in store or online, they have everything separated by sport, making it easy to find what you’re looking for! I easily navigated to their baseball section to find my bat, baseball, and bases! For this post, I chose to go with a classic Louisville Slugger Wood Baseball Bat. Now, one thing I will say about wood bats is that they can break. I know that sounds obvious, but most baseball bats today are made out of aluminum alloy (or metal alloy) and tend to be more durable.
Baseball bats come in different lengths, similar to soccer balls from my Spring Get Active Challenge: Kill It On The Soccer Field Post. Louisville Slugger has an article that goes into detail on how to choose the perfect bat for you based on weight, age, and height. The bat size I purchased was a 34″.
Since I hadn’t been to a baseball field in a long time, I wasn’t sure if there were going to be any bases there when I arrived. Because of this uncertainty, I purchased a primed deluxe base set. Luckily, when I got there they had already had some set up!
The only other item you will need to play is a baseball glove! If you’re new to the sport or are just playing around for fun, similar to the bat or any of the equipment, you don’t have the buy the most expensive option. I remember buying a Rawlings baseball glove at like Walmart or Target for $20 when I was little. On Dick’s Sporting Goods Website, you can filter by price to find the item within your budget. They even have a price point under $25 with some mitts at $14.99!
If you’re also just playing for fun, you don’t need to buy cleats. They’re a nice-to-have item but not necessary!
Thank you so much for stopping by to read today’s post! I hope it inspired you to get active and have fun outside. If you decide to try out this week’s get active challenge idea, I’d love to see! Be sure to tag me in your photos on social media so I can cheer you on!
