St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treat Lick Mat Idea
In my office I have a whole drawer of dog clothes, dog costumes and accessories that I’ve used for all of our themed photoshoots for the howl-i-days. When looking through it the other day, I stumbled upon Diesel’s sequin green St. Patty’s Day bowtie that I got him when he was a puppy (he’s always loved wearing clothes, ha!). When I found that I immediately thought, I need to do a St. Patrick’s Day Lickimat recipe.
I don’t know about you, but every time there’s a holiday, I have yet another reason to make a fun dog lick mat idea and I was not letting this one pass me by! In this post, I’m sharing a fun and easy two ingredient St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treat Lick Mat Idea! You can make this frozen Lickimat idea in minutes and I think your pup is going to love it. Let’s get to makin’!
P.S. Be sure to check out my entire Healthy Dog Treat Recipes section on my blog where I have tons of dog lick mat ideas that are easy, healthy, and delicious!
Lickimat Idea Ingredients & Tools:
For this St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treat Lick Mat Idea, you only need two ingredients and three tools (all of the tools are optional of course!).
Ingredients:
- 1-2 spoonfuls of pure canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling – dogs don’t need all of that sugar!)
- 1 Bag frozen peas (stick with frozen and not canned to avoid the added salt)
Tools & Lickimat:
- Lickimat Soother (my favorite for soft textures & I’ve linked the two-pack deal because it saves you a little money if you get two rather than one!)
- Cocktail Muddler (my go-to tool for mashing anything for my frozen lick mat ideas)
- Piping Bag or DIY piping bag with Ziploc bag (great for drawing the initial shape)
- Heart-shaped measuring cup and/or cookie cutter (will be easier to use than free handing, unless you know you can free hand, then I say go for it!!)

How To Make:
Now that we’ve gathered all our ingredients and tools, let’s make our St. Patrick’s Day Dog Treat Lick Mat Idea!
Step 1: Fill your piping bag with your 1-2 spoonfuls of pure canned pumpkin and grab your heart-shaped measuring cup or cookie cutter.
Step 2: In the top left corner of your Lickimat Soother, place your heart-shaped measuring cup or cookie cutter. With your piping bag, trace the outside of the heart to create the first leaf of your four leaf clover.
Pro Tip: Pipe one side of the heart and then lift up to make sure you’re getting it on the Lickimat. When I was first doing this, I was actually just piping onto the measuring cup and not on the Lickimat so I had to do it a second time. Learn from me, ha!
Step 3: Repeat step 2 until you have created all four leaves of your four leaf clover (You will essentially be putting your heart-shaped measuring cup or cookie cutter in every corner). Next, create the stem by piping a line in the bottom right corner.
Pro Tip: From here, I chose to stick it in the freezer for 30 minutes (the pumpkin will freeze pretty quickly!). By doing this, you will be able to have a frozen border to fill in with rather than it mixing in with the mashed peas that we’ll be doing next. Take this time to play a fun game with your dog, try one of my dog enrichment ideas or even get in a quick K9 fitness workout. I’ve shared a ton of fun K9 fitness exercises!
Step 4: Heat up your frozen peas according to bag instructions (I love the steamables!) and in a bowl mash all of your peas with your cocktail muddler (or fork).
Step 5: With a knife, fill in the leaves of your four leaf clover with your mashed peas.
Step 6: Freeze for 2-3 hours or overnight!
