Thermacell E-55 Dog Friendly Mosquito Repellent: Best Mosquito Repellent For Campsite
A few weeks ago we took our dogs on their very first camping trip to a local dog friendly county park in Mount Dora, Florida called Trimble Park! My dogs absolutely love exploring dog-friendly trails, but I wasn’t sure how they would react to spending a night in a tent and being outside the whole time. I’m so excited to say that they absolutely LOVED it! Chandler and I are already looking into dog-friendly campsites for the fall.
Since this was a summer camping trip in Florida, we had to pack items that would help keep us cool and protected from the bugs. Since our campsite was close to the water, I immediately knew I needed to find the best mosquito repellent for our campsite and one that was a dog friendly mosquito repellent. I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS get eaten alive by mosquitoes. My mosquito bites get so big and itchy, they drive me nuts!
After reading through tons of reviews and doing my own research, I found my new favorite dog friendly mosquito repellent brand called Thermacell! Thermacell has designed an invisible, scent free dog friendly mosquito repellent that actively works to shield you and your campsite from mosquitoes. In this Thermacell Mosquito Repellent Review, I’ll be sharing a ton of helpful information about the E-55 model, plus answering commonly asked questions like:
- Is Thermacell okay to use around dogs/dog friendly?
- How does Thermacell work?
Is Thermacell Okay To Use Around Dogs?
Let’s dive into the most important topic at hand, “Is Thermacell okay to use around dogs?” The answer is yes, Thermacell is dog friendly!
Unlike many bug sprays that include deet or other ingredients that aren’t safe for pets, Thermacell’s rechargeable mosquito repellents use Allethrin which is a synthetic version of a natural insecticide found in the chrysanthemum flower. Thermacell’s products are constantly reviewed and regulated by the US EPA and other agencies and have confirmed it is pet friendly, including use around dogs.
Now, I wouldn’t let your dog eat the refills included or put their face directly into the invisible mosquito repellent that’s released from your Thermacell products, but when used as directly, you’re good to go!
*If you have any concerns, never hesitate to contact your veterinarian!*
How Does Thermacell Work?
Now let’s get into how this dog friendly mosquito repellent actually works. I got to try the Thermacell E-55 Rechargeable Mosquito Repellent but I also have the Thermacell MR300 Portable Mosquito Repellent, which is great for taking on trails and boat rides!
The Thermacell E-55 Rechargeable Mosquito Repellent provides a 20 ft. zone of protection against mosquitoes and helps keep you safe from mosquito-bearing diseases like West Nile Virus, Zika Virus and Encephalitis. Since this Thermacell portable mosquito repeller has such a large radius, I would say this is definitely one of the best mosquito repellents for campsites.
Below is a quick walk through of commonly asked questions on how Thermacell’s products work, plus how to assemble Thermacell’s E-55 Rechargeable dog friendly mosquito repellent:
How Long Does It Take To Charge Thermacell’s Products?
Thermacell has both fuel powered and rechargeable dog friendly mosquito repellents. Thermacell’s rechargeable mosquito repellents, like the E-55 model featured in this post, come with a USB cord, making it easier than ever to keep mosquitoes away!
For a full charge, set aside 5-6 hours. You can use the Thermacell E-55 mosquito repellent while it’s charging, but it will take longer to charge.
How Long Do Thermacell’s Last?
Once fully charged, Thermacell’s E-55 mosquito repellent provides five and a half hours of continuous protection! Each package also includes one Thermacell 12 hour refill. They have two different larger refill sizes available including a 36 hour rechargeable mosquito repellent refill and a 120 hour rechargeable mosquito repellent refill.
How To Assemble and Use Thermacell’s E-55 Dog Friendly Mosquito Repellent
Putting together and using the Thermacell E-55 Rechargeable Mosquito Repellent is super easy! Here is a step-by-step guide with photos on how to put yours together:
Step 1: Start by grabbing your refill cartridge included in your package (it has a rounded bottom with a blue and black lid.
Step 2: Remove the plastic black middle section of your refill cartridge.
Step 3: Remove the top of your E-55 model (it’s magnetic and will come right off!)
Step 4: Insert your refill cartridge into the opening.
Step 5: Put the top back on your E-55 model.
Step 6: Press power button to turn on and place in a central area away from open food containers. Once you see all four lights on, it is fully working!
Pro Tip: Thermacell’s protable mosquito repellers are intended for outdoor use ONLY. Do not place inside of your tent or enclosed patio space. Depending on your campsite, I like to place mine on my camping table or picnic table if available (again, away from food).
Step 7: Wait 15 minutes for your portable mosquito repellent device to fully cover the area.
That’s all there is to it!
