3 Ingredient Homemade Pupsicle Recipe
This summer, my mom and I wanted to start making homemade pupsicles! We first looked at Pinterest to try a few easy homemade pupsicle recipes and have had so much fun ever since. Pupsicles, also known as dog popsicles, are a great frozen dog treat for the summer! They usually only require a few ingredients, most of which can be found right in your fridge or pantry.
In this post I am sharing my very own 3 ingredient homemade pupsicle recipe that is designed to hydrate your pup with the help of some of our favorite summer snacks: watermelon, cucumber and coconut water!
Your pups are going to love this homemade pupsicle recipe and snacking while making is highly encouraged!
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
For this homemade pupsicle recipe, you will need the following:
- 1/4 cucumber
- 1-2 slices of seedless watermelon
- 1 Liter of coconut water
- Paw print silicone mold or any popsicle silicone mold
- Baking sheet or cutting board
Pupsicle Health Benefits:
- Watermelon: Low-calorie fruit packed with vitamins A, B6, C and potassium. Plus, since it’s 92% water, it’s a perfect way to hydrate your pup on a hot day!
- Cucumber: Loaded with vitamins B1, C and K as well as copper, potassium, magnesium, and biotin, this vegetable can boost energy levels and is a great snack for overweight dogs!
- Coconut water: Full of electrolytes, potassium, calcium and vitamin C, coconut water is a great way to hydrate your dog! *Not to be used as a water substitute though*

Step 1: Chop Up Your Watermelon & Cucumber
To start making this homemade pupsicle recipe, chop up both the watermelon and cucumber into very small squares. This will be the filling for the pupsicle!
A few tips:
- Watermelon must be seedless or have seeds removed
- Do not use watermelon rind
You don’t need too much cucumber or watermelon for this recipe. If you’re only planning on making between 3-6 pupsicles, I would only use 1 good slice of watermelon (maybe 2). It all depends on how many pupsicles you’re making and how big the molds are!
Step 2: Prepare Your Pupsicles
Next, it’s time to prepare your pupsicles! Grab your paw print silicone mold or popsicle silicone mold of choice, chopped up watermelon and cucumber, coconut water and baking sheet/cutting board.
First, grab your baking sheet/cutting board and place your popsicle silicone molds on top. This will help stabilize your pupsicles when you transport them to the freezer! Next, start filling your pupsicle with the chopped cucumber and watermelon. After you’ve filled in as much as you’d like, top it off with the coconut water!
The popsicle silicone molds set featured in this post came with a regular popsicle silicone mold, a bunny silicone mold and a paw print silicone mold! You can find this set of eight silicone popsicle molds on Amazon.
I also used the C2O Coconut Water that I found at Publix. If you love coconut water and plan on enjoying some yourself, you can buy packs of coconut water on Amazon. If you only want to use it for the homemade pupsicles like me, you can find the individual liters at your local grocery store!
Note: These popsicle silicone molds did come with sticks that you can insert into the molds. I ONLY recommend using the sticks if you are going to hold the pupsicle while your dog enjoys it. Otherwise, skip the stick and place it in their bowl to eat! The stick was just for the photos!
Step 3: Freeze
Some dog popsicle recipes only require two to three hours to freeze. For this homemade pupsicle recipe, I recommend at least four to five hours, or letting them freeze overnight. This will ensure that the coconut water has fully frozen!
Pro tip: Keep your paw print silicone mold on the cutting board or baking sheet until it has frozen. It will keep it balanced in the freezer!
Step 4: Serve!
Once your homemade pupsicles are fully frozen, it’s time to pop them out of their silicone molds and serve to your pups! I like to put them in their dog bowls to eat so the mess stays all in one place. If you chose the stick option, make sure to stay with your pup as they chow down on their dog popsicle!
And that’s all there is too it pet parents! My first homemade pupsicle recipe was a huge success with my pups and I had an absolute blast making it. Your pup can enjoy this homemade frozen dog treat all summer long as a great way to keep your dog cool and enjoy a refreshing, healthy and hydrating snack!
