Lickimat Soother Recipe: Fall Pumpkin Dog Treat
Can you believe it’s already September? I can’t! Even though we don’t get the typical fall season here in Florida, I’m still super excited about the new season and all of the fun activities and tasty treats that come along with it! To kick things off, I made a new fall themed healthy Lickimat recipe!
This 3 ingredient dog treat is a super easy dog lick mat idea that only takes five minutes to put together and you probably already have the ingredients in your freezer/pantry! Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make this fall Lickimat recipe.
P.S. Check out some of my other lick mat recipes for dogs like my Lickimat Buddy Recipe Idea: Halloween Frankenstein Dog Treat! It’s perfect for any Howl-O-Ween pawty!
Fall Lickimat Soother Recipe Ingredients:
To make this dog lick mat recipe, grab your Lickimat Soother and the ingredients below.
- 1/2 Cup Pure Pumpkin (NOT Pumpkin Pie Filling)
- 1 bag Frozen Peas (You won’t use the all, but if you make my Frankenstein Halloween Dog Treat Lickimat Recipe, you can use more of the bag!)
- Bocce’s Bakery Dog Treats (You can use any crunchy dog treat of your choice! I found the Monster Munch dog treats on sale at TJ Maxx and was so excited to use them for my Fall/Halloween dog treat recipes)
- Optional: Great Lakes Beef Gelatin (this makes the 3D pumpkins and the fall letters along with more pure pumpkin. We’ll get to that part of the recipe later on!)
P.S. If you have another Lickimat for dogs you can definitely use it! I have the Lickimat Soother and the Lickimat Buddy and for this design, it was easier to use the Lickimat Soother!
How To Make Lickimat Soother Recipe: Fall Dog Treat:
Step 1: Cook your frozen peas and grab a small bowl to put them in. Once they’re cooked, mash them inside the bowl.
*To mash, I actually use a cocktail muddler. I use this all the time to mash my avocados for my breakfast and to mash ingredients for my dog treat recipes!*
Step 2: Grab a knife and start spreading the peas across the bottom of your Lickimat Soother. This is making the grass bottom for your fall pumpkin dog treat scene.
P.S. Want to know more things you can put on a dog lick mat? I’ve created 20+ easy-to-make dog lick mat recipes in my new What To Put On A Lick Mat: The Ultimate Dog Enrichment Cookbook (only $12.99)! This cookbook is a digital download so you can prop it up on your phone or iPad as you’re making tons of healthy dog lick mat ideas for your pup!
Step 3: Grab your pure canned pumpkin and make your pumpkin outline. It will look like half a circle.
Step 4: Fill in your pumpkin shape with your pure canned pumpkin and then make a small rectangle at the top for the stem.
Step 5: Grab your crunchy dog treat and use your cocktail muddler to mash it into small pieces. This will create the brown stem for your pumpkin.
Step 6: Sprinkle the treat on top of the pumpkin stem so the dog treats can stick to the mat.
Step 7: Grab your knife and mashed peas and make a small leaf next to your stem.
*Steps 8-11 detail how to make the gelatin 3D pumpkin and letters. These steps are optional!*
Step 8: Grab your Great Lakes Beef Gelatin and pure canned pumpkin and follow the instructions on the container to make your pumpkin gelatin.
Pro Tip: I actually learned how to make these from one of my favorite fellow dog bloggers, Tori Mistick! She uses these as pill pockets for her dog’s medicine and these healthy pumpkin dog treats have some pretty cool health benefits! Check out her full DIY Pumpkin Gelatin Gummy Dog Treat Recipe post for more information on how to make plus some helpful tips!
Step 9: Grab your pumpkin silicone mold and add your pumpkin gelatin mixture.
Pro Tip: After making this once, I wouldn’t recommend using the alphabet silicone mold with the gelatin pumpkin mixture. I’ve tried plain Greek yogurt to do the letters and now the pumpkin gelatin and both end up falling apart. To make this, I pieced together some of the letters after they fell apart, ha! If you want to add letters to the top, I would put the pumpkin or whatever mashed consistency your dog loves into a piping bag and write the letters yourself!
Step 10: Place in your fridge and allow them to cool for a few hours.
Step 11: Once they’ve cooled, pop two out and place on each side of your pumpkin and your pumpkin scene is complete!
Give to your pup and watch them enjoy!
