HAAS Horse Brushes Guide
When I first started riding, I had no idea what the best horse grooming brushes were or what they all even did. With so many horse grooming brushes out there, I didn’t know where to start! When I discovered HAAS horse brushes, they immediately became my favorite.
This German horse grooming brand is known for their high quality horse brushes and after creating my own HAAS brush set, I don’t want anything else! I got to speak with a member of the HAAS team directly to learn all about their brushes, which was one of the coolest things ever!
In this horse brush guide, I’ll walk through the types of HAAS horse brushes available like mane and tail brushes, plastic curry combs, hard and soft brushes for horses and which types of horse brushes work best for mud, dirt and polishing!
Plus, I’ll share some of the HAAS team’s favorite HAAS horse brushes and some bonus horse grooming hacks and tips!
HAAS Curry Combs For Horses
The first types of horse brushes in my HAAS horse grooming brushes set are the HAAS plastic curry combs. HAAS actually has two different kinds of plastic curry combs. Their newest curry brush for horses is the New Generation Soft HAAS. This features a softer plastic material, which I personally prefer for everyday grooming and I like it more than my previous rubber curry comb for horses.
The second plastic curry comb for horses, known as Der Gute Curry, “The Good One”, is a harder plastic. Many people use this for everyday grooming, but I tend to use this for cleaning my horse brushes instead! This plastic curry comb does have a leather handle which can be replaced at any time!
Both can be cleaned with a quick rise!
Pro Tip: For all of your hard and soft brushes, simply take the HAAS Der Gute Curry and run it through your hard and soft brushes for horses. It’s a great way to get a lot of the hair and dirt off as you groom!

HAAS Horse Hoof Picks
Did you know that there are two different kinds of horse hoof picks that can be used based on the weather, where you live and your horse’s environment? I didn’t until I spoke with the HAAS horse brush team!
The first HAAS horse hoof pick is called The Huftkratzer (green hoof pick). This is the hoof pick I use daily. It’s designed for regular cleaning and the bristles are softer and work best to remove sand and other lighter dirt.
The second HAAS hoof pick is called The Joker (blue hoof pick). If you live somewhere colder with ice and snow or somewhere with a ton of mud, this horse hoof pick is for you! The hoof pick and the bristles are both harder, helping you to remove mud, ice, and snow.
Life Hack: The Joker horse hoof pick is also great for cleaning troughs and for gardening! It’s very helpful for getting narrow weeds out.
HAAS Horse Brushes For Dirt & Mud
The next types of horse brushes I’ll be sharing about are the HAAS horse brushes designed for dirt and mud. I’ve broken these hard brushes for horses into two categories: hard dirt & mud and soft dirt.
Hard Dirt & Mud Horse Brushes:
The three HAAS horse brushes that are designed for hard dirt and mud are the HAAS Mustang Brush, HAAS Schimmel Brush and the HAAS Koko Black Brush. Below is more information on each!
- HAAS Mustang Brush: Made with strong synthetic bristles and brass bristles. Designed to work through thick coats and remove hard dirt & mud.
- HAAS Schimmel Brush: The HAAS brush for grey horses! This brush actually means white or light grey horse and is made with firm rice root bristles that are stiff and remove dirt.
- HAAS Koko Black Brush: Smaller brush option made with coconut root bristles and is great for removing hard dirt.
Out of all of these hard brushes for horses, my absolute favorite so far is the HAAS Koko Black! Petri came in one morning absolutely covered in hard mud from rolling around (Lord help me ha!) and I decided to try the HAAS Koko Brush. Not only did this horse grooming brush remove all of the wet, gross mud, but it also smoothed out his hair so when it dried, he looked perfect! I highly recommend this HAAS horse brush and since it is smaller, it’s also great to pack in your tack trunk for horse shows!

HAAS FesselBurste (Horse Pastern Brush)
One additional hard brush for horses that I wanted to share is the HAAS Fesselburste. This is a pastern brush that is specifically designed to the shape of your horse’s pastern so you can really clean the entire area. It’s stiff enough if your horse comes in muddy and is also great for cleaning your horse’s hooves!
Plus, it’s super easy to wash after with some water and a little soap!
Light Dirt Horse Brushes:
Now let’s talk about four soft brushes for horses and horse body brushes that are great for light dirt. Below is more information on each!
- HAAS Cavaliere Brush: Features an elevated edge along the outside, allowing you to get into more areas and it gives you a second sweep as you brush!
- HAAS Lipizzaner Brush:Identical to the HAAS Cavaliere Brush, just has a different back. The HAAS Military Brush is also the same with a different back.
- HAAS Parcour Brush: Similar to the Cavaliere brush, but without the elevated edge. Has stiffer bristles and is at a a cheaper price point than the Cavaliere brush but still has the nice wooden back.
- HAAS Brenig Madoc Brush: Designed to remove soft/medium dirt, this brush has long bristles that are also soft enough to be used on the legs.
Fun Fact: The Brenig Madoc HAAS horse brush is actually a HAAS team member favorite! It’s her go-to brush and it was actually named after a horse! The owner actually designed the brush with the HAAS team directly. How cool!

HAAS Mane and Tail Brush
If you’re looking for a horse mane and tail brush, try the HAAS Mahnenburste! This horse flick brush is great for quickly getting sand off and the long, soft bristles glide right against your horse’s hair.
HAAS Horse Brushes For Polishing/Finishing
The last types of brushes in my HAAS brush set that I’ll be sharing about are the HAAS horse brushes that are designed for polishing and finishing. I’ve actually reviewed one of these soft brushes for horses before! Below is more information on each!
- HAAS Diamond Gloss Brush: A softer body brush made with horsehair bristles. Really great for getting loose horse hair off.
- HAAS Diamond Wurzel Brush: Features rice root imitation bristles and is a little stiffer than the HAAS diamond gloss brush. Great to pair with as a polishing brush.
- HAAS Diva Exklusiv Brush: Probably the softest HAAS horse brush and one of the best horse brushes out there! Features soft lambswool bristles and a horsehair border.
My favorite horse grooming brushes from the list above are the HAAS Diamond Gloss Brush and the HAAS Diva Exklusiv Brush. I use the HAAS Diamond Gloss Brush almost every time I groom because I love how it makes my horse’s hair soft but also picks up all of the extra hair. And when I say it picks it up, I mean it sticks right to the brush! I clean it off while I groom constantly, ha! I also did a post about some of my favorite horse grooming supplies and it actually featured the HAAS Diva Brush. Check out my blog post with the HAAS brush review and the other horse grooming supplies here.
HAAS Horse Face Brush
The last HAAS brush in my HAAS horse brushes guide is their horse face brush, the HAAS Smile Grundy Brush. HAAS actually has three horse face brushes. Below are the face brushes in ranking of softness:
- HAAS Micro Diva
- HAAS Smile Grundy
- HAAS Kopfburste
Now, these are all super soft horse face brushes brushes! I would pick based on your preference and what you think your horse would like best!
So I have to know, was this HAAS Horse Brush guide helpful? When I spoke with the HAAS horse grooming brushes team it was SO insightful to finally learn about all of the different types of horse brushes, what they’re used for, and to get some fun helpful tips and life hacks! I felt kind of like a horse nerd, but that’s okay, it was so fun!
Now it’s time to create your own HAAS brush set! Luckily, there’s so many awesome HAAS horse grooming brushes available, your horse brushes kit will be filled with only the best horse brushes!
