One K MIPS CCS Helmet: Horse Riding Protective Gear
The first horseback riding helmet I ever purchased was a One K Defender Helmet suede. I’ve always thought One K riding helmets are the best horse riding helmets for beginners because of their high quality at an affordable price point and all of the positive recommendations I heard! One of their newest additions is the One K MIPS CCS Helmet.
This horse riding helmet not only adds an additional layer of protection for your brain if you were to fall, but it is also customizable! In this post I’ll be answering a ton of questions like:

What Are MIPS Helmets?
So I’m sure you’re wondering what are MIPS helmets and what does MIPS helmet mean? MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System and is designed to add protection against rotational motion transmitted to the brain from angled impacts to the head.
So, essentially, if you were to fall off your horse and land on your head, having MIPS helmet technology would reduce strain sent to the brain. As an adult equestrian, I feel like I’m even more concerned with safety, so having the proper horse riding protective gear like a MIPS horse riding helmet, already makes me feel more comfortable before and during every ride with my horse.
One K Custom Color System (CCS)
Have you ever wanted to design your own horse riding helmet or have a custom riding helmet? I know I have! I have always loved bright, happy colors, and now with One K’s CCS System you can add as much (or as little) color as you want to your equestrian helmet!
Whether you want to customize one panel, two or even all three, you have the option! Before you choose any colors, you first start by choosing the type of One K MIPS Helmet that you want. I chose the One K Avance wide brim riding helmet in matte black. With the brutal Florida sun, I’ve always wanted to try One K’s wide brim helmets and the polished matte finish, makes it a great English show helmet.
How To Change The Colors In Your One K CCS Helmet:
Changing the One K CCS system panels is actually quite easy. Below is a step by step guide on how to change all of the panels on your One K MIPS helmet!
Step 1: Remove Front Shield
The front shield is the triangle piece on the front of your One K MIPS helmet that has two ventilation spots. To remove, hold your One K helmet with the front facing away from you, Then, place your fingers under the bottom point and lift and push down until you hear a click. The front shield should then slide down and off.
Step 2. Remove The Top Panel & Stripe Rail
Grab the small silver key included with your One K MIPS helmet (or use a quarter or gentle knife) and place it just below the back vent on your helmet. Insert it and do a slight twist until you hear a click. Repeat on the other side in the same spot. Next, softly slide the top panel and stripe rail forward (they are attached together) to loosen them from the middle clips.
Here is what your One K MIPS riding helmet will look like with all of the pieces removed! I wanted to show this view because it gives a great view of where the clips are for when you reassemble, which I’ll share next!
Step 3: Add In Your New Top Panel and Stripe Rail Pieces
For my One K MIPS ccs helmet, I chose two full color combinations: the royal blue gloss (featured above) and the pink gloss (shown next). I also chose the chrome stripe rail for additional color combinations.
To add in your new pieces, I recommend starting with the top panel and stripe rails. Grab your stripe rail piece and place it inside of the top panel. Make sure all clips line up with each other. Next, place the top panel and stripe rail pieces on top of the helmet. Once the pieces are in place, slide the piece towards the back of the helmet and click the back corners into place. You can tuck in the back part to the leather part of your helmet too if it’s sticking out above.
Step 4: Add In Your New Front Shield Piece
I recommend adding in the front shield piece last because it fits over the stripe rail piece. To attach the new front shield piece, slide the two upper hooks into place first and then softly push the bottom piece into place until you hear a click.
Pro Tip: I noticed that before I slid the two upper hooks, I needed to hold down the stripe rails so that the front shield would fit on top of it perfectly!
That’s all there is to it! Super simple right? I’m not going to lie, I totally practiced a few times, ha! Below are also a few initial color combinations that I did for some additional inspiration.
Royal blue gloss front shield, royal blue gloss stripe rail and original matte black top panel.
Original matte black top panel and front shield. Chrome stripe rail. Great for hunter shows!
Pink gloss front shield, pink gloss top panel and pink gloss stripe rail.
Royal blue gloss front shield, royal blue gloss top panel and royal blue gloss stripe rail.

i love my One K… ok One Ks… all 3 of them. i just recently adding a grey avance MIPS to my collection and I love the feel, fit, and ablility to change it up. i love purple so i have purple stripes

Yes!! There are so many colors! They’ve got orange, green, red, blue, and so many more! They also have some decorative ones that are like a color with a lace overlay design. SO pretty!!!!!

What a cool idea! I love my wide brim helmet, but I’m definitely looking for one with MIPS technology. Especially being a mom, safety is #1. I’m so glad this has both!
Not only is it fashionable but I could foresee this being useful when needing to stand out as well, such as trail riding! Maybe grabbing an orange or yellow color for that.

This is such a new concept I love it too!!!! I wear a ton of blue and pink so having those two colors goes with so much of my wardrobe!! And it only takes a few seconds to switch out which is even better!!!
