Horseware Ireland Amigo AmECO Horse Turnout Blanket Review
It’s that time of year friends…horse blanket season! Since I live in Florida, I don’t use some of the super heavy horse turnout blankets that many of my readers from up north may use/need. However, it does get quite chilly here for a few months, so having a horse blanket or horse turnout sheet is helpful!
My favorite brand for horse blankets is Horseware Ireland. The quality that goes into every Horseware blanket is unbeatable and I’ve known many people that have had their Horseware rugs for years! Horse dependent of course, ha!
In this post, I’m going to be sharing all about a super special Horseware blanket called the Amigo AmECO 12 Plus horse turnout blanket. This Horseware blanket was designed with our horse’s environment in mind, which to me, means a lot! We’ll cover the special features, how it’s helping the environment and so much more.
Eco-Friendly Product
Horseware Ireland launched their very own Eco Collection, which has products made from certified organic materials and recycled plastic water bottles. The Amigo AmECO 12 plus horse turnout blanket features their unique rPET fabric that is made from recycled plastic water bottles!
To make one turnout:
- 218 recycled water bottles are collected
- Water bottles are processed into flakes
- Flakes are melted and turned into yarn. Yarn is woven to create the rPET fabric
- rPET fabric is cut and sewn to create turnout sheet
What’s also really cool, is that with every purchase of an Amigo AmECO 12 plus horse turnout blanket, Horseware Ireland will plant one tree, in partnership with One Tree Planted.

Amigo AmEco Turnout Blanket Features:
This Amigo waterproof horse blanket has a ton of helpful features to keep your horse warm and secure in colder temperatures. Below is a breakdown of the helpful features:
1. 3 Crossed Surcingles
I personally love horse blankets that have three crossed surcingles. To ensure that the horse blanket stays secure, I like to criss cross the left and right, creating an X over the middle (see photo below).
One thing to note! This Amigo horse blanket does not have the straps that go around each leg. It has one single strap in the back that the tail can go through. At my barn, we call it the butt strap, ha!
2. Disc Front Closure
This is my first Horseware Ireland blanket with a disc front closure! I’ve always been curious about this style and I actually kind of like it! If you’re ever in a hurry though, don’t be, ha! The disc front closure on this amigo horse blanket is adjustable and it removes pressure and prevents rubbing.
The blanket lays flat underneath, providing a layer just below the amigo disc front closure.
