How To Throw A Puppy Bowl Party

With the Super Bowl and the Puppy Bowl only days away, I thought it would be so fun to share how to throw a puppy bowl party! My pups even got dressed up for the occasion!

Funny story about their costumes, actually. They belong to my mom for her dogs. My parents dog Aiden was the linebarker and our old yellow lab Nala used to be the cheerleader. Well, Annie is more Aiden’s size and Diesel, Nala’s, so they had to switch places a bit, ha! I can’t even tell you how annoyed Diesel was to be the cheerleader. Watching him walk with the little poms on his legs was PRICELESS!

For this puppy bowl party idea, I’ve created dog versions of some of our favorite football party snacks like pigs in a blanket, tortilla chips and football cookies! Find out how to make all of these dog-friendly football party snacks and more below!

Dog-Friendly Tortilla Chips:

To create your own dog-friendly tortilla chips, I used cow ears and pig ears for dogs! I love finding safe and healthy rawhide alternatives for dogs since Rawhide bones can cause choking and a blocking risk.

When I was first looking at these non-rawhide dog chews, the first thing I wondered was, “are cow ears safe for dogs?” and “are pig ears good for dogs?”. Both cow ears for dogs and pig ears for dogs are safe, but the two differ in terms of fat and calorie content and have risks associated with them. Below is a quick breakdown of each:

**NOTE: Always monitor your dog while eating any chew and make sure they do not swallow any big chunks.**

Are Pig Ears Good For Dogs?

Pig ears for dogs are a high fat, high calorie and high protein treat and should never be a replacement for any part of your dog’s diet. Because of the large fat and sodium content, they’re not technically a healthy treat.

While they are safe for dogs, having proper monitoring while they eat them is extremely important. If larger pieces are swallowed, this can lead to a blockage and severe digestive issues.

Also, back in 2019 there was a salmonella outbreak with pig ears from an overseas shipment. Since then, I have found no new outbreaks and if there were, pet stores would have taken them offline or off the shelves thankfully! No matter what, it’s always safe to wash your hands after handling your dog’s treats!

Are Cow Ears Safe For Dogs?

Cow ear dog treats are made of cartilage which is a natural source of chondroitin which supports joint health.

Cow ears for dogs are a healthier option compared to pig ears because they are low fat, low calorie and contain a ton of nutrients. Plus, even though cow ears for dogs are made of hard cartilage, they’re easy to digest and they can aid in dog dental care.

Similar to pig ears, make sure to monitor your dog while they’re enjoying them as to avoid large chunks from being swallowed!

Dog-Friendly Pigs In A Blanket:

Growing up, my mom’s favorite thing to make for birthday parties and school events was pigs in a blanket. One of my best friends growing up always loved them and would eat a ton. It always made my mom laugh!

I thought it would be fun to make my own dog-friendly pigs in a blanket! For these you only need two ingredients:

What’s super fun about these is that the Mini Thinker Sticks actually look like little weenies, ha! If you also have Plato Pet Treats single thinker sticks, you can break those a part too! To make, I divide one cheese slice in half and this will wrap around two mini thinkers! So depending on how many you want to make, you will need half the amount of cheese slices.

P.S. Have you seen my detailed review of Plato Pet Treats Air Dried Dog Treats? These are my favorite all-natural dog treats made in the USA!

Dog-Friendly Football Cookies

To finish off these fun puppy bowl party snacks, I made these fun football dog cookies! I found this three-pack of football cookie cutters from Hobby Lobby for $2 (initially $4 but online it said $2 and they matched my price in store!) and they worked perfectly!
