KONG Filling Idea: Halloween Dog Treat Recipe
I love making recipes for KONG’s! KONG’s have always been one of my favorite dog enrichment toys and over the past few years I’ve come up with some tasty KONG filling ideas that my dogs have loved! One of my favorite things to do is to come up with KONG stuffing ideas for the holidays! I’ve shared dog KONG recipes for Christmas, Thanksgiving and now I’m sharing a Halloween dog treat recipe, inspired by one of the most famous Halloween treats, candy corn!
Today I’ll be sharing this 3 ingredient dog treat that can double as a delicious frozen KONG recipe. Whether you want to use the pumpkin silicone mold version or the healthy KONG recipe version, the steps are the same to make this fun Halloween dog treat recipe!
Gather Your Ingredients:
To make this 3 ingredient dog treat Kong filler recipe, you’ll need the ingredients below:
- Plain Greek Yogurt
- Pure Canned Pumpkin (*NOT pumpkin pie filling*)
- 1 Fresh Banana
- Pumpkin Silicone Mold (optional if you choose to make them into themed Halloween treats and want to actually see the full candy corn look!)
If you’re new to make homemade dog treats, below is some helpful information about the ingredients found in this 3 ingredient Halloween KONG filling idea!
Is Pumpkin Good For Dogs?
Absolutely! There are many health benefits of pumpkin for dogs. The most common uses are:
- Pumpkin for dogs upset stomach
- Pumpkin for dogs constipation/help with dog diarrhea
Plus, pumpkin has many vitamins and minerals like Vitamins A, E, C, and potassium and iron!
Is Banana Safe For Dogs?
Yes bananas are safe for dogs! Bananas are high in potassium, vitamins, fiber, copper and biotin! If you’ve ever wondered can dogs eat a banana peel? I would NOT recommend them to dogs. Even though your dog can eat them, they’re really hard to digest which could cause an interal blockage which isn’t good for your dog.
Can Dogs Eat Greek Yogurt?
Yes, dogs can eat Greek yogurt! Plain Greek yogurt for dogs has a lot of live cultures and is free of added sugar. Plus the texture of Greek yogurt can be more attractive to dogs than regular yogurt!
How To Make Halloween KONG Filling Idea:
Below are the three steps for how to make this Halloween frozen KONG dog treat recipe.
Step 1: Grab your plain Greek yogurt and fill 1/3 or 1/4 of your KONG (depending on how much you want to fill it!). Since there are only 3 ingredients, this will be divided into 3rd’s!
Step 2: Grab your canned pure pumpkin and fill the next 1/3 or 1/4 of your KONG.
Step 3: Grab your banana and mash it. Then fill the remainder of your KONG. I like to seal off the top with the banana!
*To mash, I actually use a cocktail muddler. I use this all the time to mash my avocados for my breakfast and to mash ingredients for my dog treat recipes!*
Step 4: Freeze for 2-3 hours or overnight!
Below the photos are a a few helpful tips for using the pumpkin silicone molds to make this Halloween dog treat recipe since the layering can be tricky at first!
The biggest tip for making this Halloween dog treat recipe with the pumpkin silicone mold is to use less than you think you need. By doing this, you will create more even layers so you can actually see the white, orange and yellow candy corn look.
Follow the same steps as above for the Halloween KONG filling idea.
Once your frozen KONG recipe is fully ready, your Halloween dog treats will look like the photos below! Don’t worry if your layers aren’t perfect. Your dog will have no idea!
Wasn’t this 3 ingredient dog treat recipe super easy? Taking your dog’s KONG to the next level with KONG stuffing ideas is a great dog enrichment activity that you can do with your dog anytime you want!
