Valentine’s Day Dog Treat: Frozen Dog Cake Pops
If you’re a dog-obsessed pet parent like me, you don’t need any excuse to spoil your pup! This year I wanted to create a super fun Valentine’s Day dog treat recipe inspired by a Valentine’s Day treat favorite, cake pops! I created a tasty dog version: frozen dog cake pops!
These easy DIY no bake dog treats only have a few ingredients, take minutes to prep and are absolutely delicious. I can confirm, I tried one, ha! In this post I share how to make these fun Valentine’s Day dog cake pops!
Frozen Dog Cake Pops Ingredients:
To make these Valentine’s Day frozen dog cake pops, you’ll need a few ingredients and materials:
- Strawberries
- Plain Greek Yogurt (no xylitol)
- Silicone Cake Pop Mold (this kit was great and it came with the sticks!)
- Blender (optional!)
Frozen Dog Cake Pop Flavor 1:
Both of these frozen dog cake pops flavors feature the same ingredients, the only difference is the amount of strawberries used in each. The first dog cake pop flavor features a full yogurt circle with small strawberry pieces inside.
How To Make Yogurt Strawberry Chunk Dog Cake Pops:
Start by grabbing a few strawberries and cutting them into thin slices. From there, chop up the thin slices into small squares. These small pieces will be the filling inside of the frozen dog cake pops. Depending on how many frozen dog cake pops you want to make, I would start with 1-3 strawberries since you can only fit so many square pieces in each circle within the silicone cake pop mold.
Next, fill both sides of the cake pop mold with yogurt, but not all the way. Add in your small strawberry squares. Finish by covering both squares with yogurt. I thought these were fun because they have a surprise inside!
*Pro Tip: One thing to note with how to use a cake pop mold. Make sure you’re filling the top and bottom parts of the mold that actually will go on top of each other. The first time I made these, I accidentally filled opposite sides of the silicone cake pop molds and ended up with only halves instead of full circles, ha!*
Frozen Dog Cake Pop Flavor 2:
The second frozen dog cake pop flavor are extra fun Valentine’s Day dog treats because they’re pink! These pink cake pops feature blended strawberries and yogurt versus the others that had hidden strawberry chunks inside.
How To Make Strawberry Dog Cake Pops
To make these tasty greek yogurt strawberry dog cake pops, grab a few spoonfuls of yogurt and a handful of chopped strawberries. I tried using my Ninja blender to combine but to be honest, with a small amount it doesn’t really work the best. If you’re making a large amount, it might work better.
I would just get a bowl and mix everything together until the color is pink. There will still be small chunks of strawberry in it but it’s quite delicious actually, ha!
Finish Assembling & Freeze
To finish assembling these frozen dog cake pops, grab your cake pop sticks from your silicone cake pop mold set. Combine the filled cake pop molds one on top of the other and insert your cake pop sticks into the holes!
Place in the freezer and let set for 1-2 hours and then serve!
Note: DO NOT give the dog the cake pop by themselves with the stick attached. If you choose to add the stick, you must hold it as they eat it so the stick does not become a choking hazard for your dog.
How cute are these frozen dog cake pops?! Shooting these photos with the dogs in their chef hats was honestly the funniest thing I’ve done yet. They kept slipping off and between all of the readjusting and help I was getting from my pups, it was quite hilarious! 10/10 recommend, ha!
